AT&T will soon be getting its own version of the popular portable hotspot from Novatel that has been available for some time now on rival carriers Verizon Wireless and Sprint. AT&T’s version, called the MiFi 2372, will also add a memory card slot, support for the MiFi OS, and widgets with location-based information utilizing the device’s built-in GPS. All those fancy features come on top of the device’s selling point–the ability to connect up to five WiFi-enabled devices to the portable router to share the router’s mobile broadband connection on AT&T’s 3G network. Where 3G isn’t available, the device will fall back to EDGE connectivity. The MiFi supports a fast HSPA connection with 7.2 Mbps download speeds and 5.76 Mbps upload speeds. Of course, those quoted speeds are theoretical so your mileage may vary. The device is expected to drop on November 21st for the asking price of $50 after a $100 mail-in rebate. You can get the MiFi with a pre-paid or post-paid data plan, with post-paid packages capping out at 5 GB for $60 per month and the max on a pre-paid plan is 1 GB.
