Published

torque-euHaving a new smartphone is always an event that is well worth looking forward to, as any geek and gadget loving fan would be able to tell you. Having said that, it looks as though the European market is being prepared to be on the receiving end of the spanking new Kyocera Torque, in which it will not be the 2013 model, but rather, be more in the same vein as that of the Kyocera Brigadier.

Apparently targeting the business world for those living in France and Germany, the upcoming Kyocera Torque is one tough cookie. We are talking about having a 4.5″ 720p display that will be accompanied by the likes of a Snapdragon 400 chipset, a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, 1GB RAM, an 8MP shooter at the back with an LED flash, IPX5 and IPX8 rated for waterproof, dust- and shockproof capabilities, not to mention being able to handle temperatures which would wilt an ordinary, unclothed human – -21 to 50 degrees Celsius for 3 hours.

kyocera-c6750Another day, another handset hits the FCC before it is thrown to the lions, and by lions here, I mean those who are more than happy to tear into a particular device before it has the chance to prove itself. Most folks who are along that line of thinking would most probably make short work of the Kyocera C6750, since this is no flagship smartphone and neither has it raised any alarm bells or red flags in anybody’s books.

Having made it through the FCC’s approval, we do know that the Kyocera C6750 will be a world phone that supports Verizon Wireless’ spectrum bands in addition to GSM/WCDMA 850/1900 bands, accompanied by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, being water resistant to a certain extent, and also sporting a camera with flash and a microUSB port. No idea on when it will arrive though.

torqueIf you and your smartphone never really had a decent relationship, where I mean you tend to drop it, break the display, send it down into the toilet bowl, all of it by accident and not on purpose, perhaps it is time to take stock of the situation and settle for a tougher handset. If that is your exact predicament, then you would do well to check out the Kyocera Torque that is now available from Wirefly for $29.99, where it is accompanied by a 2-year warranty.

Just how tough is the Kyocera Torque? Well, Wirefly decided to put it through the paces by placing the handset in a washing machine for a full 33 minute wash cycle, before it was placed in a bowl of water which was subsequently frozen for up to 15 hours. Taking a couple of hours after that for it to thaw out, the Kyocera Torque was dropped from a height of 15 feet – twice, and the Kyocera Torque passed with flying colors. Isn’t that mighty impressive?
