With NVidia’s Tegra processors starting to gain fame and traction in the smartphone market these days, it looks like Qualcomm will have none of it, or at the very least they will not go down without a fight. In a video Qualcomm basically pitted their 2nd generation Snapdragon processor against NVidia’s Tegra 2 processor, and what’s interesting is that Qualcomm’s processor is single core while NVidia’s Tegra 2 will be a dual core. On the surface it looks like the dual core processor might have an advantage but the results will surprise you.

In the video it showed that Qualcomm’s processors managing to achieve greater connectivity and is better suited for 4G networks, although it was not a completely fair test considering both devices were not the same, and Qualcomm had the luxury of being connected to Verizon’s LTE network over AT&T. I guess this is just Qualcomm’s way of trying to market their processors, but it does bring about an interesting question which is if you had to choose, would you go for a single core phone that is connected on LTE networks, or a dual core phone that is just connected on 3G speeds.

I guess on paper the dual core does look like the more attractive option but it doesn’t seem that necessary considering that unlike computers, apps generally do not come with hardware requirements. What do you think?
