Right on the verge of its latest flagship phone’s launching, Samsung has received some excellent news with new statistics claiming that the South Korean electronics manufacturer has overtaken Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia as the leading smartphone make for the first time ever. The information which comes from a study conducted by Strategy Analysts represents the first time Nokia has been off the top spot in 14 long years after it knocked Motorola of the perch in 1998. The firm puts the success down to the company’s policy of making a mobile phone for anyone that wants one. Besides that, the largely successful Galaxy S2 smartphone that scooped up multiple awards also had its share of the plaudits and is also one of the factors that led to the take-over at the top of the charts.

Samsung sold 93.5 million devices in the first quarter of 2012 which is a figure up by 36% from last year which gives the company 25.4% of the overall market share. This is as opposed to Nokia’s 82.7% which gave it a 22.5% market share. For those who are wondering where the Cupertino-based technology giant is, Apple came in at third place with the iPhone earning 9.5% of the market share where mobile phones in general. However, when the category of smartphones is considered, that number jumps to 24.1% for Apple with rivals Samsung still topping that particular chart and being responsible for 30.6% of smartphones in the overall market. This is just a repetitive thing and means that Samsung and Apple are still at the top where smartphones are concerned as of Q1 2012. With both the company’s next flagship phones coming out soon, the figures are likely to change but the question is; by how much?

iPad Air 3 Not Coming This Year According To Rumors

Published

on

apple-logo2It looks like the folks over at Digitimes have come up with their own interpretation of things to come – that there will be no iPad Air 3 released, at least for this year. Digitimes has had their fair share of hits and misses in the past, so it would be best to take this rumor concerning the non-release of the iPad Air 3 in 2015 with a pinch of salt.

Digitimes also laid claim that the iPad mini 4 will not be as supercharged as some of the rumors that had been going around, as it will bring with it only small and incremental upgrades when compared to its predecessor, the iPad mini 3. This does not seem to bode well for fans of the compact tablet, taking into consideration how the iPad mini 3 itself was improved over its predecessor with a new Touch ID fingerprint reader.

Since Apple tends to roll out a new iPad in October, we will just have to sit tight and see whether this particular rumor has enough “legs” to run.
