A Linux-based Motorola offering, the Ming is the previously named A1200. Targeted at the Chinese market, shipping of the Ming has already begun in Hong Kong. The clamshell phone has Chinese character recognition - Pinyin input which is widely used. It seems quite a bit of market research has gone into the naming of the phone, seeing as 'Ming' means bright, clear, open and clear-sighted. Interestingly enough, the phone's plastic cover is transparent, keeping with the whole 'Ming' theme.

Haier's new N60 smartphone is one of the newer Linux-based phones on the market. Haier has been showing off the Access Linux Platform, a commercial-grade Linux-based platform for mobile devices, which is said to be flexible, intuitive and with Total Integrated Solutions. Looking-good with a 262K color 320*240 swiveling touch screen, an SDIO expansion card (lets you slap on a WiFi connection), and MP3 and MPEG-4 support. Only strange thing would be the lack of Bluetooth, slightly troubling in a smartphone. Still there's always GPRS, Infrared, Java, MMS, SMS, USB, WAP to go with. Specs after the jump.

Swiss company, ImCoSys, announced its intention to release a dual-mode mobile phone that also uses GPS. The PDA-like phone will star next month at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany. According to its datasheet, the smartphone is based on the Texas Instruments OMAP 730 processor, the same used by the E28. Running on Linux 2.4.20, the phone supports German, English, French, Italian and Spanish. The phone has a PDA-like LCD TFT touchscreen, supporting 262K colors and QVGA resolution. The ImCoSys phone should reach the market sometime in June 2006.
