Samsung has launched a microSD card for tablets and LTE-capable smartphones that is said to be four times faster than the current SD cards. According to TheRegister, the UHS-1 (ultra high speed) interface card stores up to 16GB and pumps data out at up to 80MB/sec. According to a report from PanArmenian, it is built from 20 nanometer-class, 64 gigabit toggle DDR 2.0 NAND. The UHS-1 interface has been seen on full-size SD cards and has been used in digital SLR cameras as well as video recorders. Now, Samsung has transferred it to the microSD format.

Tablets like the range of Galaxy ones and iPads are closed devices with no memory expansion capabilities meanwhile with tablets like the Nook from Barnes & Noble, it does so it could use the microSD card provided cloud-based data streaming doesn’t become the norm, it would be a huge plus point. LTE phones on the other could be looking at something of a game changer with this blazing memory card and Samsung might already have plans for it. The Korean electronics giants paln to expand the card’s capacity with higher density products to create a 32GB card in the future but for now, mass production of the 16GB microSD UHS-1 has already started but the price and release date is still unknown.
