3D displays that do not require special glasses seem to be the trend nowadays, appearing in laptops, gaming consoles and even our smartphones, such as the HTC EVO 3D and the LG Optimus 3D. Some people might find 3D display a bit of a novelty and perhaps even a marketing gimmick, but some would make a decision to purchase a particular device because it has 3D.

Well the good news is that it seemsHitachiis coming up with a 4.5-inch 3D display that requires no special glasses. It seems in this new display,Hitachiwill not be going the typical barrier approach, but rather go with a lenticular lens approach instead. Unlike their previous modelHitachishowed last year, this model will feature a whopping 1280×720 resolution, which is pretty amazing for a 4.5-inch display.

It will be interesting to see which smartphone manufacturer will adoptHitachi’s new display.
