BenQ-Siemens unveils prototype Oxyon

BenQ-Siemens wants a piece of the catwalk action in the world of fashionable cellphones, and they aim to dethrone LG’s Chocolate handset by developing the Oxyon handset. Still in the prototype stage, the Oxyon cellphone comes in a white finish that is similar to that of an iPod and has a keypad which slides out effortlessly. Features include a full QWERTY keypad, a lovely 640 x 480 VGA TFT display, a 3 megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom, an integrated MP3 player, and a microSD memory card slot. You can expect the Oxyon to roll out officially sometime next year, where such specifications might end up as the norm by then. One area of concern would be getting used to the vertical dial pad which could take some getting used to for most people.

BenQ R100 Android tabletYes, you read it right – another manufacturer has decided to foray into the world of Android tablets.  This time, it’s none other than BenQ. The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer has announced that they will be releasing a new Android tablet in Taiwan, China and possibly the rest of the world. The BenQ R100 tablet is slated for a Q1 2011 release and will probably be revealed at CES 2011 or MWC 2011. The Android tablet will pack a 10.1″ (1024 x 600) LCD touchscreen, an 833MHz Samsung ARM-based CPU, 8GB of internal storage, WiFi, an SD card slot, mini HDMI, mini USB and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Judging from the specs, it looks like it’s not going to be a high-end offering, seeing how it’s lacking in the dual-core/storage department. The tablet looks like it’s just going to be another face in the crowd, your thoughts?

There isn’t too much technical information on this phone yet, but we do know that the Royal will have a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus.
