KDDI offers Toshiba TiMo

KDDI offers Toshiba TiMo
Toyota has worked with KDDI to develop the TiMo cellphone that turns car navigation and similar services for drivers into child's play. This TiMo handset will be based on the W44T cellphone that was announced earlier this year, and will be available only in Toyota's car outlets around Japan. The TiMo will connect to Toshiba's Bluetooth navigation system that is integrated in the vehicle, booting up the navigation software upon a successful connection for greater efficiency. A docking station that doubles up as a charger for the TiMo is also included. Pressing the emergency button will enable the driver to ask for directions and help, turning driving into a safer, more pleasurable experience.

New info on Blackberrys

New info on Blackberrys
We have more skinny regarding the two new Blackberry devices - it seems the 8705 is nothing more than a glorified 8700, where the only positive change is the addition of Hearing Aid Compatibility along with certain minor tweaks in the components. The decision to exclude WiFi support is questionable and will be another blow to the device upon its release. The Gamma Ray model is also known as the Blackberry 8800 and will come in a slim form factor that is similar to the Blackberry Pearl. The 8800 will boast a full QWERTY keyboard, trackball navigation, a microSD card slot, and built in WiFi support. It will be released next year so you can forget about receiving one in your Christmas stocking this holiday season.

Motorola KRZR K1m preview

Motorola KRZR K1m preview
Word on the street is Sprint will soon make the highly desirable handsets from Motorola available to consumers, bringing the RAZR-inspired cellphones to a store near you. These new models will include the KRZR K1m and the SLVR L7c. Phonescoop has an exclusive preview of the K1m, and they came away with an extremely positive impression. The specifications and hardware configuration of the K1m remains the same as before, although the included Sprint software is vastly different from the initial version, making it much easier to use than existing Motorola and Sprint handsets. The final release ought to prove itself to be a solid offering.

New Ultra Edition handsets launched

New Ultra Edition handsets launched
Samsung's new Ultra Edition 8.4, also known as the Z370, has landed in Europe. Touted as the world's thinnest 3G handset, the Ultra Edition 8.4 comes with a large 1.93" TFT display, a 2 megapixel camera, and a regular VGA camera for video calls that were incorporated into an impossibly thin 0.3" thin body. In addition to the Ultra Edition 8.4's launch, Samsung also introduced the Ultra Edition 13.8 (Z720) which will reign as the world's thinnest HSDPA slider phone. You've got to hand it to Samsung for claiming that title as it is also the only one of its kind. There is no word on a Stateside release at the moment, so keep your fingers crossed!

KDDI offers Sharp W41SH handset
KDDI customers will be able to enjoy the new CDMA handset from Sharp. The W41SH cellphone comes in a clamshell format and is available in 4 different colors. Its LCD display incorporates similar technology used in Sharp's line of Aquos LCD TVs, providing razor sharp images. The W41SH sports a 2.6" QVGA 262k color LCD display on the inside, while the outer display is a 1.2" Aquos LCD TV-derived screen that shows all the essential information. Multimedia features include a 2 megapixel camera and a built-in MP3 player. Pricing details are currently unavailable. Somehow the Japanese seem to be getting all the fantastic handsets while we have to settle for measly crumbs.

Samsung Z610 takes after the iPod

Samsung Z610 takes after iPod
Samsung has a brand new cellphone in the form of the Z610 that was recently approved by the FCC. This new handset boasts a minimalist design that takes after Apple's uber-successful iPod line of MP3 players. The Z610 comes in a glossy white exterior that screams of fingerprint magnet which is punctuated by chrome accents at strategic places. Dedicated music playback buttons are included to cater for those who rely on cellphones as their primary audio device. A microSD slot is available for you to carry all your favorite tunes, while other notable multimedia features include a 2 megapixel camera behind and a VGA camera in front for video calls. The pricing and availability of this 3G handset is currently unknown.

KDDI launches DRAPE handset

KDDI launches DRAPE handset
These new DRAPE cellphones, developed by KDDI, were recently launched by Toshiba in Japan. We presume it shares the same namesake and design that we find in drapes across households worldwide. Since mom has always taught the wisdom in not judging a book by its cover, let us take a look at what the DRAPE offers. This cellphone boasts a sharpshooting 3.2 megapixel camera that comes with auto-focus, digital zoom, and even a night mode to capture your antics under low light conditions. Of course, KDDI has kindly thrown in the mandatory MP3 player as well. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown, but it is most certain the DRAPE will never make its way Stateside officially.

Motorola ROKR E2 debuts in Singapore

Motorola ROKR E2 debuts in Singapore
Hopefully the Motorola ROKR E2 will be more of a success than its predecessor. The original ROKR failed to make its mark in the cellphone market, but the E2 aims to erase such memories. This Linux-based handset boasts a robust MP3 player that supports the most common digital audio formats, and the USB 2.0 connection makes transferring songs a snap. The E2 comes with a SD card slot that enables you to carry up to 2GB worth of music on the go, while the built-in FM radio keeps you entertained when you've run out of songs. The Motorola ROKR E2 currently retails for approximately $355 in Singapore, so we aren't sure if this is an Asia-only handset. Does anyone out there have any details?
