SoftBank Pantone 5 107SH is the First Phone That Measures Radiation

After the Fukushima tragedy in Japan last year, many people in Japan have been worried about radiation and have taken steps to monitor their surroundings. Now however, it seems that Pantone 5 which is said to be a prominent handset manufacturer in Japan has come out with a niche smartphone that has a large round physical button that can read the radiation level in your surroundings and provide the results within 10 seconds along with a map of your location.

The SoftBank 107SH comes in eight different colors and is 12mm thick and with the large physical button, it is easily identifiable. It apparently runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it has a 3.7-inch WVGA screen, a 1.4GHz single-core processor, a 4MP camera and it is water and dust proof. The radiation sensing smartphone will be hitting Japanese markets sometime in mid-July without any pricing details revealed just yet. With that said however, we don’t think that the same niche market applies to the US based consumers but people like variety although there hasn’t been any word of the phone coming anywhere Stateside.
