RIM Patent Shows Battery-Charging Holster

After all the announcements that were made during the BlackBerry World Conference not too long ago, it seems like RIM has not stopped with new innovations and designs for its line of smartphones and tablets. Today however, a patent filing that was granted to the company shows something quite interesting. The image of the patent filing above shows a holster which apparently houses a flexible battery that has been built into it. The battery that is built into the holster is in addition to the battery in the device itself so it will apparently serve as an additional battery that will charge your BlackBerry smartphone while you are on the go.

In addition to that, the holster is also said to communicate with your phone and using the other interesting part of it; its built-in speakers, it can notify users which not only preserves the speakers on the device itself but also prevents the muffling of the phone’s ringer or notification tone if it happens to be lodged awkwardly in the holster. That said however, there doesn’t seem to be any official announcement as to what RIM intends to do with this innovation but this patent does reveal some intriguing information especially in a time where people are constantly looking for larger or external batteries as their usage pattern gets heavier and heavier. What do you think about the patent application?
