The smartphone market’s numbers from March are now in and you wouldn’t need that many guesses as to who is leading the battle in the US. Android’s numbers went up by 4% which pushed it past the halfway mark to 51% and it currently leads the herd. Apple is still quite high with its second place and a market share of 30.7%. This gives the combined market share to both those companies a massive 82%. Microsoft and RIM took hits of 0.8% for Microsoft and 3.7% for RIM which saw their tallies drop to 3.9% and 12.3% respectively.

For now, the US smartphone market only seems to be a two-horse race. The total amount of smartphones in America now stands at 106 million owners which is a full 9% more than it was 4 months ago in December. However, with companies like HTC which was also not as impressive from the statistics, it will be looking at how it’s ‘One’ line of smartphones will fare over the next few months. As for LG, given its recent refocus on the Android platform they will also be ones to watch.

As for the two leaders on the other hand, Samsung will see its latest flagship device take center-stage tomorrow at London with Apple rumored to be launching its next-gen iPhone in June. As for what those two much anticipated behemoths of phones will do to the market, we can only wait and see. Also, with the launching of the BlackBerry 10 Mobile OS yesterday which apparently received rave reviews from early developers who were present at the event, it seems that RIM will not be giving up the race without a fight.
