LG Announces World’s First FullHD Smartphone Display; 400 PPI Pixel Density!

Step aside Mr Retina, it seems like LG has just announced what could put the era of the crystal clear Retina display a thing of the past (for awhile at least). Its new display for the ever evolving smartphone features a resolution of 1920 x 1080 in a screen that is 5-inches long diagonally. According to LG it is the world’s first FullHD smartphone display with its staggering pixel density of 440ppi (pixels per inch).

The panel that is apparently used in this new breed of display is an Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS) LCD screen. Apparently, LG used the panel in a television last year and it won award as well. As opposed to standard IPS panels, AH-IPS panels are said to have greater color reproduction, wider viewing angles as well as greater light transmission which should also lead to better energy consumption. If everything goes well, the 5-inch Full HD panel should be released in the market by the second half of 2012 and hopefully it will feature in the high-end phones that we can expect in 2013. What do you think of the new LG-AH-IPS LCD screen?
