Apple Makes $500 Million Per Quarter from iPad Covers

News that Apple making $500 million each quarter just from iPad covers have come to light as the company has reached out to its non hardware and software side of things. Richard Kramer who is the managing director of Arete Research said while speaking at the Open Mobile Summit in London, “Apple is one of the first manufacturers to move its focus away from mobile hardware, as seen with the iPad Smart Cover. The majority of iPad users own one of these flexible accessories, which brings Apple in a $500 million fortune each quarter.”

Kramer apparently went on to say that this shift from what seems to be a “black slab” hardware help assist companies like LG, Sony and Motorola which all saw a decline in revenues last year, to establish themselves within the mobile market. He continued, “There’s a huge problem with differentiation for mobile device vendors, and it’s a growing concern. To us, smartphones may all look different, but to the average consumer they all look like fat black slabs. The end of this black slab trend looks set to happen in 2013.

Basically, his point was that if other smartphone and tablet manufacturers didn’t heed this warning, they would be facing a problem with sales throughout the year of 2013. On a personal note, I disagree with him to a certain extent and what I am referring to is the beautiful body that the HTC One X uses as well as the finish on the previous iPhones which were just gorgeous. I think people have gotten into technology enough to know the differences between a “black slab” and a unique and beautiful piece of technology. Let us know what you think.
