Sony says Xperia Android Upgrade Might Impact Performance

Sony, the Japanese techno giants have announced in their blog that its Xperia range of smartphones will be getting the latest instalment of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update this month. They have said that their developers have been working hard to upgrade their company’s Xperia handsets to Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sony has also left a warning that while Xperia users might be waiting on tenterhooks for their update, some Xperia devices might not be able to cope with the OS which requires more resources to run when compared to the stock Gingerbread or others currently on their device. The Japanese electronics giants also say that although the update might be new and compelling in many ways, they want their users to make an informed decision when selecting what Android software to use.

Via the comments on the blog, it is a question many are asking but customers are still ignorant about the availability of a roll-back option should they wish to try the update out for themselves but Sony has remained silent for now but will respond to all customer queries over this week. Regardless of the warning issued by Sony, if users still insist on updating their smartphones, they will be able to do it from mid-April with the updates rolling out over a space of four to six weeks.

Sony also added that the update will only be available via PC companion and Bridge for Mac, not on an “over the air” update so users will not be notified. Are you looking to upgrade your device because you are confident with your device, or just because you want ICS or will you be sticking to your stock OS? Let us know with a comment below.
