Read It Later App is Now Free and Called Pocket

There are many apps which are used daily that allows users to save articles for later but the most obvious of the lot, ‘Read it Later’ has now announced that it is changing its name to Pocket which is a new service that apparently takes over where ‘Read it Later’ left off. The app which used to come with a premium option attached to a price tag is now gone and it can now be downloaded for free. Pocket now has 4.5 million users who save 400,000 items on a daily basis even though it lacks the slick design of apps like Instapaper or Readability. The essential purpose of this app is to strip away the non-essential parts of an article such as ads and social sidebars while keeping the images, videos and text which are relevant for access later on without an internet connection.

That said, the new UI for Android devices has been reported to be very elegant with large image-heavy thumbnails and also a feature that can parse content to let you filter articles as to whether or not videos are contained. It is the same for the tablets except with larger thumbnails and a larger reading interface. Although ‘Read it Later’ was not in any real danger of becoming irrelevant to users, the company seems to think that a refresh was vital to keep the product ahead of the game. If you want to check out this application which can be used for both, iOS and Android devices, do head on to the company’s new website, GetPocket.com which as an added tip also has a nice web interface for reading articles.
