Ice Cream Sandwich Rolls Out the Latest for Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II

Android users generally believe that if a handset is purchased unlocked and without a contract, the update for its OS would generally come out faster since it does not need to go through the carrier for a tune-up so to speak. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S II handsets in UK however, it seems that the handsets from carriers are getting their updates first. The Korean electronics giants have ironically pointed the fingers at carriers blaming them as to why unlocked devices are yet to see an update in the UK.

Samsung says that in the UK, each carrier has to validate that the update will work on its network or some customers might find that they are unable to use it. Since unlocked phones can use any carrier and any SIM, they will not be able to get the update until all the UK based carriers have validated it. According to Samsung, this is their way of bringing it to as many people as possible in the quickest time. Many Samsung Galaxy II owners can see how its unlocked counterparts over in Korea have enjoyed the Android 4.0 update for nearly a month but it seems like they have only two choices, the first being to patiently wait it out for Sammy or to install an unofficial version.
