Google CEO Drops Low Costing Tablet Hint

Google CEO Larry Page has said in an interview that the Mountain View based company is interested in the low cost tablet market because it was exciting and that is where the company is apparently focused on. Google’s Android platform has grown significantly over the past years. Canalys, a market research firm even released results from a study that was conducted which showed that the platform accounts for 48.8% of the smartphone market. Google which has had success with its Nexus line of smartphones are also in the midst of completing a deal that will see the search giant purchase Motorola Mobility.

Page said, “We’re very excited about tablets, obviously there’s been a lot of success on some lower priced tablets running Android. We definitely believe there’s going to be a lot of success at the lower end of the market as well as with lower priced products. It’s definitely an area we think is important and we’re quite focused on.” Could this mean that the rumored Google Online Tablet Store could be housing low-cost tablets that could compete with the likes of the Kindles and the Nooks?
