Dropbox Adds Linking Capability

Published

on

With the news world buzzing with stories of Samsung’s alleged S-Cloud and Google Drive, the current famed cloud-storage service provider Dropbox seems to upping the ante by adding a new collaboration feature to its application. The new linking capability allows non-users to view documents and files in a browser without signing in to the service via a link sent from the account holder. Account holders can use this share/link feature through any of the service’s platforms including desktop, web or even mobile platforms. To clarify, the users will be able to access the file in “read-only” mode which means that they will not be privileged to edit the file in anyway.

That said however, the feature does offer some very impressive benefits such as impromptu presentations or documents without having to log in or transfer files. Dropbox has even suggested alternate uses to expand the current mindset in which Dropbox is being used by suggesting to companies that can send presentations to clients who might not use Dropbox and share materials with employees on their first day of work to get them ramped up in an easy fashion via just a link. Even in the education industry, the company seems to think that if teachers distribute the material via this new channel it would be more effective and if the students had their own accounts, the two way street would make the back and forth process that much more efficient. Have you already checked out the app for your device? Let us know what you think about this newly added feature.
