After previous stories that we have reported about a smaller iPad being tested out by Apple, the rumors still persist and it seems like again, another has surfaced. John Gruber who has been a pundit for Apple for quite awhile now recently made mention of a possible 7.85-inch iPad that he claims is being testing in Apple’s super secret laboratory in Cupertino.

During his interview with the 5by5 network with Dan Benjamin, he mentioned that Apple was “noodling” with a smaller iPad with a resolution of 1024 x 768 in the lab. He described the device as being a shrunk down iPad. He said that with an iPad that size, none of Apple’s line of apps on the App Store would have to be redesigned to work on it so it would not interfere with anything in that aspect. Reportedly, Gruber is said to be very reliable and is known for his accurate knowledge of what goes on within the walls of Apple’s Cupertino based HQ.

That said however, Gruber adds that he has no knowledge of whether the product will ever see the light of day but the fact remains that Apple is in fact playing around with the rumored device. As for whether it ships or not, there have been other rumors saying that the “7-inch iPad could ship right after WWDC this summer” while others have said that the device will only be released later this year with no exact time-frame.
