Before today, Zite the personalized news reading application was only available on the iOS platform. By releasing a version for Android smartphones and tablets, Zite has diversified as opposed to its rival, Flipboard which has opted to stay with iOS for the time being. Zite which was acquired by CNN, released a statement that said, “We’ve been getting lots of requests for an Android version since our launch, and with hundreds of millions of devices in use, developing one was a no brainer.”

What sets Zite apart from the other news-based apps is their personalized news stream which bases its content on your preferences on topic while registering. Zite also evolves as you use it with it collecting your thumbs-up and thumbs-down data, the app will be available to further understand and fine-tune your selection of articles

Although Apple has a more strict guideline system in place for what apps make it through to the Apps Store, the Zite development team has “learned to take into account the wide variance of devices and OS versions in the Android ecosystem” which was not a problem when they were developing apps for the “strict” iOS platform, they said in their official blog.
