The argument about which the best option might be between Flash and HTML5 is a divided one. That said, there is still a large group of people in the world who depend and consciously use Flash on their computers, smartphones and handheld devices. According to our counterparts over at TheStreet, Adobe claims that the latest number of Flash users across the globe is around 1.3 billion. Given that large number, it is very unsurprising that so many people get excited upon hearing that there is a new a version of the Flash Player app.

The latest version of Flash, Flash Player 11.2 will contain within it a new bit of code which Adobe has dubbed “Premium Features for Gaming”. The company says that this has been added to allow game developers to publish advanced games with console quality experience to the Flash Player. Besides that, Adobe announced collaboration with Unity Technologies so we might be seeing web-based 3D games on Flash Player such as Madfinger’s “Shadowgun”.

Adobe will continue to offer the upgraded Flash Player for free until July after which a revenue-based pricing system for publishers will be implemented. To stake its claim in the mobile world, Adobe has stressed that the usage of premium features within their AIR software (includes mobile applications for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android), will be royalty free. What do you think about this development? Do you think that Flash can somehow fight against the uprising of HTML5? Let us know with a comment below.
