Skype gets iPad Retina Display upgrade

While the video quality on the new iPad even with the Retina Display still lags behind what many notebooks can offer, the problem does not like with the inner workings of the new iPad. The free VoIP and video calling app now at its latest version 3.8 is limited by the quality of the new iPad’s front-facing camera which is the same one that was used in the iPad 2 and therefore tops out at VGA quality and goes nowhere near 720p HD.

You will still get free Sky to Skype voice and video calls along with cheap options to call landlines or cellphones if you decided to add credit to your account. Both the rear and front-facing snapper can be used and as an added feature, the app uses the SILK audio codec what is described by the company itself, as near-CD quality sound. Besides that, you have the option of turning your iPad into a phone that might look normal on an 8 foot man. Obviously, Apple itself does offer video calling in the shape of FaceTime but unlike its counterpart, Skype, that can only be used on WiFi.
