Siri the personal assistant that pretty much defined the iPhone 4S is may be looking at an added feature that could be coming to the iPhone. The ability to ask Siri the score of the latest game going on without accessing some 3rd party app sounds very intriguing. According to developer Evan Coleman, Siri would be capable of getting native sports scores at some point in the future through a possible partnership between Apple and ESPN.

According to Coleman, he assumes that there could be a nugget of truth based on what he found while perusing Siri. When a question is posed to Siri, your voice is sent to Apple’s server and broken down into tokens. The servers interpret the tokens and then send them back to the device to provide the most ideal reply. Most of the tokens are just one word but Siri identifies words like New York City which should be 3, as 1.

Intriguingly, Coleman has noticed that it is similar when sports teams were mentioned and cites ESPN’s release of a new developer API for sports score as another reason to substantiate his claim. While it could be a pure coincidence or you could assume that the move could be the start of Apple and ESPN collaborating on something for Siri. Lastly, an ESPN representative also confirmed that the company was working closely with Apple. Who knows what can become of this relationship? Perhaps something in iOS 6.
