The company behind the successful Angry Birds franchise, Rovio announced its latest acquisition of Futuremark Games Studio today. The gaming arm of benchmarking software developer Futuremark is responsible for games such as Shattered Horizon, Hungribles and Unstoppable Gorg which will remain as Futuremark’s asset library.

Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio said, “They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board. Rovio’s success is founded on the excellence of our team and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition.” According to the CEO of Futuremark Jukka Makinen, Futuremark will now focus on supporting games and the industry at large with 3DMark, a professional grade benchmark which, in a new version to be released later this year, will allow unified gaming performance comparison across OS’ and form factors for the first time. Besides Futuremark Games Studio, Rovio also acquired Kombo Animation Studio last summer and given both these acquisitions, Rovio looks to be here long term.
