Nvidia have come up with the GeForce GTX 680 which is considered the best performing GPU in the world. The leaders in the GPU race have designed and manufactured different GPUs for different types of devices. You have the desktop chips which focus on performance and take a lot of energy and at the other end of the spectrum; you have their Tegra 3 Soc for mobile devices.

With the new GPU announced, it could spell an end for the company’s multi-orientation as they have announced new scalable architecture called “Kepler”. The GPU design is touted as being the most power-efficient and actually improves performance with a little additional feature called “GPU Boost”.

Now for all you mobile aficionados, Nvidia officials have said that the Kepler architecture is so power-efficient that we can expect it to reach smartphones in the not-so distant future which is part of their overall plan, to conquer all three major GPU markets, desktop, notebook and smartphone/tablets.
