As the Finnish company continually moves its operations to Asia, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop continues to cut jobs. Nokia has completed discussions with its staff at their plan in Salo, Finland confirming that 1000 jobs will be cut as the company looks to bounce back from a rough 2011. As the year proceeds, Reuters states that the workers will become redundant and most will be gone by the end of June.

He says that the remaining staff will focus on making models suitable for European operators. Since Stephen Elop took over as CEO of the Finnish mobile giants, he has been making changes such as moving the company away from Symbian and towards Windows Phone 7 which is a good thing but on the other hand, he also initiated widespread downsizing.

Some people believe that Nokia has turned a corner as Windows Phone 7 slowly but sure gains its due credit and more importantly, customers. Results from a recent Appcelerator and IDC study has shown that developers are keener to produce kit for Windows Phone 7 since Nokia saw a huge jump in interest of Microsoft’s OS circa Q4 2011.
