Lumia 800 hiding NFC under the bonnet [Not confirmed]

WPBench, the benchmarking app for Windows Phone 7 listed the Lumia 610 with a NFC label. While there is no basis of truth in the nugget of information, a twitter ‘conversation’ between a fan and Nokia Hong Kong hinted that NFC could also be hiding within the single piece of plastic that makes up the Lumia 800. The information comes from Nokia Hong Kong’s official microblogging site. A conversation between an employee of Nokia Hong Kong and a random fan on twitter which has been translated as you can see above might have caused the stir.

According to Nokia HK, the Lumia 800 contains a hidden NFC chip which will only be activated with a software update to the next version ‘Apollo’ which will unlock the power of NFC on the Lumia 800. This might mean that there is a NFC chip in the Lumia 610 as well. It looks like we are going to have to check that and the validity of the NFC claim for the Lumia 800 out for ourselves.
