iPhone app developers are sought after by RIM

Based on a job posting on its LinkedIn page, RIM is looking to hire a software developer with deep experience of producing applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPad. The advertisement does hint that RIM, manufacturers of the Blackberry smartphone who have been struggling with a depleting market share may be interested in adapting some of its proprietary applications originally made for Apple’s iOS.

Tech wizards and connoisseurs’ have been constantly saying that RIM could make its popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) instant message service available on rival platforms such as Android and Apple. While this would definitely create a fresh and thick vein of revenue for the corporation, it would shoot itself in the foot as BlackBerry users around the world would have one very large reason less to stay loyal.

While a spokeswoman from RIM was not available to comment immediately on the hiring, the ad stated that the candidate that was successful would create exciting enterprise applications for distribution on the iOS platform and would be capable of architecting, designing, developing and testing complex applications for iPhone and iPad devices.

A recent survey showed that among developers, only 16% were ‘very interested’ in creating apps for BlackBerry as opposed to 90% for Apple and 80% for Android. Although RIM upgraded rolled out a software upgrade for its slow-selling tablet, the PlayBook in February which allows the device to run Android apps, the same scenario with Apple apps does not seem feasible as the source codes differ greatly.
