Bug on Google Play makes Russian email app update appear on some Samsung Android devices

Many Samsung Android users were under the impression that they had been victims of a malware attack when an update for a Russian Email app, “МТС Мобильная Почта” appeared under the “My Apps” section of Google Play. Many users who installed the update are now finding it difficult to uninstall. So far what we can grasp about the issue is that the developer of the above Russian app, OJSC had used the same i.d (exclusive for each app) used by Samsung’s email app for their own which caused users to think that it was an update for Samsung’s own native email client.

After discovering the accidental mishap, Google clarified the situation by saying that there was a bug that caused the Russian version of the mail app to erroneously appear in the “My Apps” section of google Play. However, they also say that the app has been disabled and so it was never actually installed on any devices. Currently, Google are working on a fix to stop the application from appearing as an update in the “My Apps” section.
