Apple could topple Intel of the top spot in mobile processor manufacturing

Apple could very well knock Intel of the top spot to become the biggest mobile chipset manufacturer in the world this year. A survey by In-Stat found Intel edging Apple out from the number 1 spot by a mere 0.4% in 2011 with 13.9% of the market share at 181million mobile processors as opposed to Apples 176million mobile processors clocking in at 13.5%.

Given that the new iPad sold over 3 million units in just the first 3 days, it is not hard to agree with the prediction. To add fuel to the fire, we must remember that Apple has an iPhone (either iPhone 5 or 6) due to roll out to the masses this year and the same money is that it will sell as incredibly well as its predecessors have if not better.

Intel however will definitely not take this punch to the jaw quietly and although the notebook and laptop market is on the downward slope, they have recently collaborated with Orange to provide the processor for the forthcoming Santa Clara smartphone and it is said that they can see the processor working with other smartphone manufacturers to gain a foothold in the expanding smartphone market. Another thing that might work in Intel’s favour is that Microsoft Windows 8 which is rumoured to roll out in October 2012 will most likely help Intel up its shipments with the many Intel powered tablets expected to be released. Whatever said and done, the numbers just go to show how Herculean a force Apple has become.
