Nokia Siemens Networks CTO says 4G will 1000x faster and much cheaper by 2020

Nokia Siemens Network CTO, Hossein Moiin has come has stated to online sources that he thinks that there will be significant advances in network speeds and pricing by the year 2020. According to him, speeds will be 1000 times faster than they are now and on top of that, it will cost as little as $1 per GB which will be the daily consumption of an average user. The picture he painted about networking will allegedly come to fruition by the year 2020.

To support speeds of that magnitude at an affordable price would mean that radio technology will have to improve drastically but Moiin remains confident that it will be possible with evolution based on a factor of ten. While it is common knowledge that carriers are struggling to handle the unprecedented demand for data currently, Moiin iterates that a very dense network will “increase the absolute cost but reduce the cost per bit” which is just like anything else which gets cheaper as it gets more advanced.

Since the amount of money that needs to be pumped in currently to support wireless networks is in the higher levels, ‘cheaper’ would be something of a godsend. Although Moiin speaks of network speeds a 1000 times faster than they are now, he doesn’t exactly seem even nearly happy by his own prediction as he thinks that it would mean that all the work that has been put in now would have to restart again from scratch and that it will get harder (referencing the intellectual side of things) “but we will have to do it all over again”.
