Windows Phone Marketplace reaches over 50,000 apps

Exactly one year ago, we reported that the Windows Phone Marketplace reached a milestone of 5,000 apps. Well, we’re happy to say that as of today, the Windows Phone Marketplace has been growing steadily since then because the app store has now passed the 50,000 app mark. It might have taken a year to get there, but it managed to grow by 10,000 from the reported 40,000 apps mark last month so we should see the Marketplace hit the next 50,000 in less than a year.

The Windows Phone Marketplace still needs to catch up with the humongous Android Market and Apple App Store, but if developers continue working with Windows Phone, they can get it where it needs to be. Next up would be for Microsoft to increase the amount of Windows Phone users worldwide – after all, there would be no point of having so many apps if there was nobody to use them. Any predictions on when the Marketplace will hit its first 100,000 achievement?
