CyanogenMod 7 for Kindle Fire now available

Good news Amazon Kindle Fire owners! If you bought the Kindle Fire mainly because it was priced at a very affordable $199 rather than its e-reader capabilities and Amazon’s own custom Android UI, CyanogenMod 7 for the Kindle Fire is now available for download thanks to XDA developer JackpotClavin.

This ROM was teased to Kindle Fire owners about a week ago, and the good news is that it is available for download as an alpha build. What this means is that not all the features on the Kindle Fire will work, such as no sound and hardware acceleration, but other than that all the major functions are working.

In fact some forum members who have downloaded the ROM have claimed that the overall experience of the alpha build of the CyanogenMod 7 on the Kindle Fire is much more smoother compared to Amazon’s own build. If you’re interested in giving the CM7 ROM for the Kindle Fire a spin, head on down to the XDA forums for more information, download links and instructions. Once again, proceed at your own risk when attempting to install this ROM.
