Android powered Sony NW-Z1000 media player stops by the FCC

Some time earlier this year, Sony unveiled the NW-Z1000 media player. What makes it so unique is that it runs on Android, much like how Apple’s iPod touch runs on iOS, which we guess is what Sony is attempting to emulate here. If the device caught your eye and you’d prefer an Android media player over an iOS one, the good news is that the NW-Z1000 has recently been spotted at the FCC.

There will not be any radio connection available apart from WiFi and Bluetooth. It will feature NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor, 512MB of RAM, a 4.3” WVGA 800×480 display and will run on Android’s Gingerbread 2.3. It will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions that range from $365-$561.

The NW-Z1000 has already seen a launch in Japan, so we guess it’s good news for those of us living stateside who may want to get their hands on it. No word on when it will drop, but keep your eyes peeled!
