Amazon reportedly sold 95,000 Kindle Fires on first day pre-orders

So we know that Amazon plans for their new Kindle Fire tablet to be a worthy contender to Apple’s iPad 2, but exactly how well is it doing? Given that the tablet will only be seeing a release in November, these figures are based on just pre-orders. According to eDataSource, a market research firm, pre-orders for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet shot up 95,000 on the first day that it was made available.

This is nowhere near Apple’s iPad’s 300,000 first day sales, but considering that Amazon is new onto the tablet scene with their first Android tablet, and considering that the Blackberry Playbook only managed to achieve 200,000 sales in their second quarter, this is considered to be pretty good. Granted we don’t know how the Kindle Fire will perform yet and if it will truly be an iPad competitor in terms of content offerings, but for now it looks like things are going well for Amazon.
