At the moment it’s no secret that Android is currently dominating the smartphone platform market share. Last we checked Android had a little over 40% of the market share with iOS commanding close to 30%. According to a new study conducted by NDP on prospective smartphone shoppers, Windows Phone 7 may be able to challenge Android’s top position in the future.

According to the results of the study, 63% of the users claimed that Android would be their choice, but another 44% also claimed that Windows Phone 7 is an option they wouldn’t mind considering either. With the Mango update, Microsoft is hoping that it will finally be able to compete against iOS and Android, and based on the favorable feedback so far regarding the update along with a slew of new devices, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft will be able to grab a larger share of the market.
