Nokia To Exit Japan Cellphone Market By August

For those living outside of Japan, they may not have known this, but Nokia had apparently stopped supplying Japanese carriers with Nokia devices ever since 2008. We’re not sure why, could be due to stiff competition. Instead Nokia kept up their Vertu stores which supplied high-end cellphones. However, reports now suggest that Nokia will be closing the Vertu stores by the end of July. We’re wondering if they will have a clearance sale, although we don’t think it will matter since Vertu phones are known to be outrageously priced.

The Nokia offices are said to remain open until end of the year to handle fee refunds and other matters. We’re not sure why Nokia is moving out of Japan, especially since they have plans to launch their series of Windows Phone 7 devices, but perhaps Stephen Elop has other plans that may not include Japan.
