WP7 Mango To Support Front-Facing Cameras?

Published

on

According to the Windows Phone 7 Beta 1 Mango developer tools, there was a reference for a “self-portrait camera”, i.e. a front facing camera. Now thanks to the Beta 2 release of the Mango developer tools, according the screenshot above, it looks as though there is now a new icon in the camera application.

The icon does not appear on current Windows Phone 7 devices, and judging by its looks, it is implying that it might be a toggle to switch between the rear-facing and front-facing cameras. We’re guessing that this will probably have a lot of use in video conferencing calls, and considering that Microsoft had recently acquired Skype, we won’t be surprised if Skype makes use of this new feature.

If anything, this probably also gives us an insight as to what the Windows Phone 7 devices may look like. At the very least we can expect to see front-facing cameras in future devices.
