HTC’s Gaming Marketplace – HTC Play?

Published

on

It seems that HTC has recently filed for trademark protection on the term “HTC Play” which based on various sources seems to point to the possibility that HTC may very well be coming out with their own gaming marketplace for downloading video games. According to the filing, this is what HTC has planned for their “HTC Play”:

IC 042. US 100 101. G & S: Computer services, namely, providing search engines for obtaining games and related content for computers, mobile phones, tablets, and mobile devices, all via a global computer network; Providing a web site featuring temporary use of non-downloadable software for downloading, uploading, purchasing, programming, transmitting, receiving, editing, extracting, encoding, decoding, using, viewing, accessing, searching for, sharing, storing and organizing games and related content for computers, mobile phones, tablets, and mobile devices

So we all know that Amazon has their own Android AppStore along with the Android Market, so will HTC be looking into something similar? After all HTC has filed for other trademarks, namely the HTC Read, HTC Listen and HTC Watch, it would not be too far fetched to assume that a HTC Android store would not be in the horizon. Or could this be something bigger, something proprietary to HTC devices only? HTC does cater to Windows Phone 7 devices after all too.
