Sony Ericsson Waiting for Windows Phone 7 To Take Off

Sony Ericsson fans it looks like you may not be seeing Sony Ericsson making Windows Phone 7 devices for the time being at the very least.  Sony Ericsson’s CTO Jan Uddenfeldt was quoted as saying “While Android is the main focus of the company, it will still have a door open for Windows Phone 7. But it won’t be making any products if the operating system doesn’t take off.”

Who can blame them, with Android exhibiting a rather meteoric rise in terms of market share and with iOS enjoying almost a quarter, therefore with Windows Phone 7 only enjoying a tiny sliver of the proverbial pie why would the phone manufacturer invest their time and resources into an operating system that isn’t holding its own at the moment?

Could Sony Ericsson be waiting on Nokia to release their own set of Windows Phone 7 devices first and based on Nokia’s success or failure help them make the decision as to whether releasing Windows Phone 7 devices would be profitable? Basically if you were hoping for a Sony Ericsson’s WP7 device this year chances are you will be in for a disappointment.
