Nokia To Continue Supporting Symbian Until 2016

In a recent interview by Stephen Elop, he mentioned that Nokia will continue to provide software updates, support and other services to the Symbian operating system “at least up to” the year 2016. That’s great news for Symbian users out there as we all know that Nokia has taken a new stance and formulated a new strategy that involved their partnership with Microsoft in producing Windows Phone 7 devices, which will be seeing a release in 2012.

So judging by his statement, does he mean that they are giving Symbian users up to 2016 to switch over to Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 devices or perhaps even MeeGo? Not to write the Symbian operating system off entirely, so despite all of Symbian’s flaws there probably are quite a few people out there who are still fans of the Symbian operating system so what does this mean for them? Will Nokia continue to push out Symbian devices alongside Windows Phone 7 and MeeGo devices or will Nokia just let Symbian die a slow and quiet death?
