Android Owns Biggest Slice of the Smartphone Pie

Perhaps it’s really not such groundbreaking news and to be honest with the slew of Android devices being launched all over the world, it did not come as a surprise to learn from comScore’s report for March 2011 that Android controls about 34.7% of the smartphone market, placing it at number one with the possibility that it might eventually command at least 50% by New Years.

RIM’s Blackberry however does not have such a happy ending and has been steadily declining as we can see from the graph where they enjoyed about 42% in 2009 but has since dropped to about 25% in 2011.

Kudos to Apple though who has managed to maintain 25% throughout the years although with Google’s Android already taking over, that 25% might eventually not be worth much any more but if we were to live by the age old adage – slow and steady wins the race. Maybe with the launch of the iPhone 5 might convince some Android users to jump ship.

Windows Phone 7 seems to be declining at a rather steady pace, dropping 0.2% from 7.7% to 7.5% but maybe with their new deal with Nokia things might start to shape up when Nokia finally announces their Windows Phone 7 device.
