The long-awaited WiFi-only version of the Motorola XOOM has finally been announced. In an official press release today, Sprint stated that they will be selling the world’s first Honeycomb tablet from Motorola in just over a week. The Motorola XOOM was launched with a staggering $799.99 price tag which turned a lot of people away from getting the device. However it was made known that there would be a cheaper WiFi-only option arriving soon, and it looks like the wait is almost over.

The Motorola XOOM packs a 10.1″ widescreen HD display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5megapixel rear camera, a 2megapixel front facing camera, 32GB of storage, HDMI output, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and of course Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). The Motorola XOOM will go on sale for $599.99 on May 8 on all Sprint Direct Ship sales channels including Sprint’s website. No details were released regarding whether we’ll be seeing a 3G/4G version of the device, or a MiFi bundle, but stay tuned for any details.
