Windows Phone 7 not helping Microsoft mobile market share

You would think that when a company releases a new mobile operating system, it would do well since everybody likes brand new things. Well, it looks like Microsoft isn’t receiving the reception it was hoping for. According to the latest statistics released by ComScore, Microsoft has taken a hit in the mobile market share instead of getting a boost from the release of Windows Phone 7. From October 2010 to January 2011, the period when WP7 was first released, Microsoft lost 1.7% of their smartphone subscriber share! From the statistics, it shows that people who were on Windows Mobile have moved on to other operating systems instead of WP7, and the amount of new WP7 users obviously couldn’t make up for this exodus. But a lot of people couldn’t obtain a WP7 device because it is only available on 2 carriers on the moment (Sprint and Verizon will have WP7 phones later this year) and some people have been holding out for the “NoDo” update. Well, the year has only begun so let’s see if Microsoft can make up for their lackluster debut.
