Tetris Company gets rid of Tetrada from Windows Marketplace

Published

on

Karios Games, the creators of Tetrada, a popular puzzle game that takes the gameplay of Tetris, has received a cease and desist order from the Tetris Company. The Tetris Company has accused Karios Games of copyright infringement due to the unoriginal gameplay. In his defense, Mario Karagiannis, sole developer of Tetrada, wrote on his blog that he had new gameplay modes that were going to be introduced in future updates which would make his game totally different – but it looks like we won’t be able to see those extra modes (in another game, perhaps?). Since he is only a student and had no financial means to fight back, he had no choice but to remove the game from the Marketplace. However he accused the Tetris Company for bullying indie developers out of the competition and he also extended an open invitation to developers from all platforms that have been in similar situations before to see if they can do anything about the problem. What do you think of the situation? Should this even be an issue, or should large game developers leave the indie game developers alone? Leave us your thoughts on this issue.
