Kik fights back against RIM over Kik messenger

Published

on

Remember the whole incident sometime late last year when RIM removed Kik messenger from the BlackBerry App World and discontinued support for the free cross-platform messaging service? Besides getting rid of the app they also sued the CEO of Kik, Ted Livingstone, who was alleged to have stolen sensitive information regarding the inner workings of BlackBerry Messenger and applied what he learnt in the inner workings of Kik messenger. It looks like Kik didn’t sit around waiting for the lawsuit to fall through and countered RIM with denials of those allegations. They stated that they weren’t developing Kik when Ted Livingstone was still an employee at RIM and they haven’t even infringed upon any of RIM’s trademarks or patents. They also pointed out that Livingstone had no access to BlackBerry Messenger source code, and any other information related to it. They believe that the “overnight success of Kik Messenger” was what ruffled RIM’s feathers and jealousy was the motive behind their actions. Well it’s impossible to say who’s right or wrong since we don’t have access to behind-the-scenes information, but we’ll keep you posted on future developments. Anybody here miss using Kik messenger on their BlackBerry devices?
