Windows Phone 7 to become homebrew-friendly

Published

on

The team behind the first Windows Phone 7 unlocker has recently finished a 2-day long meeting with the Redmond company about the future of homebrew software on the WP7 operating system. Although they are under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and are pretty tight lipped about the subject, they are pleased about the results of the meeting and the future of homebrew software on WP7 is in supposedly good hands. Here’s what’s going to happen – the hole that ChevronWP7 exploited will be fixed in the next WP7 update, but Microsoft and the ChevronWP7 team will be working on a short-term solution that allows apps to be sideloaded onto the WP7 devices. The solution will be used until Microsoft comes up with a solution to safely and securely support homebrew apps on their phones. How this will happen is uncertain for now, but it looks like homebrew developers don’t have to worry – Microsoft is interested in the community, they just haven’t found a way to support them yet. But as to when this will finally happen is another story, let’s hope it’s in the time span of months rather than years.
