Window Marketplace now at 5,000 apps and still going strong

It’s been exactly 2 weeks ago since we reported that the Windows Marketplace hit 4,000 apps, and look at it now- it has just hit 5,000. A thousand apps have been made available in the space of just 2 weeks. Either Microsoft has a whole backlog of apps to approve, or developers are churning out apps like crazy. None of those options are bad, as they both mean that the developing community is going strong. With the Marketplace paychecks going out next month, it looks like the accountants at Microsoft are going to have a ball of a time making sure the transactions go smoothly. And if the number of apps available on the Marketplace keeps growing at this rate, they’ll be reaching their first 10,000 apps in no time – which should attract more users to Windows Phone 7, and in turn draw more developers to the platform. What do you think of the apps that are available so far on the Windows Marketplace? Is there anything you feel that’s missing from it?
