In an insightful article on DigiTimes, the vice president of HTC Asia, Jack Tong, talks about the future of HTC and tablets. According to Jack Tong, the impact of the iPad on smartphones has been significantly less than its impact on PCs. HTC has been selling Android phones well, and will continue to focus selling them in the Asia-Pacific region. As for Windows Phone 7 devices, they will be focusing on the English-speaking markets in Asia, since WP7 won’t have other languages such as Chinese until the later half of 2011. He also mentions that Europe and US sales for the first quarter of 2011 would be a better indication of WP7’s reception due to the lack of different languages which would help penetrate the non-English speaking market. HTC has also been evaluating market conditions to decide whether they will be launching tablet PCs- they haven’t confirmed anything, but we shouldn’t discount the possibility of an HTC tablet in the future. He also responds to the tight supply of HTC flagship smartphones- shipments to key markets have been increased and shortages should ease up around December- hopefully in time for the last minute Christmas shoppers. Looks like things are going well at the HTC camp, let’s see if they can continue to wow us next year.
